Wire works
My two-dimensional work currently employs a range of materials including acrylics, industrial paints, tar, wire mesh and fishing line. Although still rooted in my love of watercolour painting on paper, my current work attempts to cross the boundaries of discrete dimensional categories through the introduction of more volumetric/spatial elements achieved for example by layering, tearing, and puncturing.
Fine lines, real or apparent skeins of thread, stretch across the composition redefining space and opening new relationships between the few simple elements. By utilizing in-between spaces and holes to project images, these ‘two-dimensional’ works open up new spatial dialogues and interrogate the painting surface itself.
